You decided to go on a summer vacation on a boat with children? Great! You will build an unbreakable bond with your children, as well as wonderful memories that you will have for the rest of your life. Vacationing, especially on a boat or a yacht, can be quite challenging. However, if you prepare well, it will go smoothly.
Before you choose a boat for your memorable vacation, consider how many persons will be on the boat. Do you have a big or small family? We recommend to book a boat for a bigger number of persons, preferably a catamaran, which will provide much more comfort and space than a classic sailboat. In our fleet, we have a large selection of luxury catamarans that are equipped with various additional equipment to make your stay on board as pleasant as possible. All our yachts and boats have Wi-Fi, so the little ones won't be bored even when they have to hide from the sun.
When you choose a vacation with children on board, the first thing you have to think about is their safety. Children, regardless of their age and whether they are on board for the first time or they are already experienced sailors, must have a safety vest. Safety vests are suitable for children of various ages and should be worn throughout the day.
This way, you will be relaxed and calm, and they will be safe. It would be good to install a safety net around the boat. With a properly placed net, kids will be able to move freely on the boat without fear of falling. However, never leave them unattended.
Staying on a boat means many hours spent outdoors in the sun. The sun in Dalmatia can be strong during the summer months, so prepare sun protection for your little ones and yourself. It is advisable to pack hats and clothes with UV filters, as well as various cosmetics that will protect the children and you from the sun rays.
No matter how much you smear them with sun creams, make sure that you and little ones are in the shade during the strongest sun. In these moments, the Wi-Fi signal will be of great use, as will the television, which is a standard offer on almost all of our sailing-, motorboats and catamarans. Your children will have fun and hide from the sun for a few hours.
It is also important to protect the children from mosquitoes and wasps. Mosquitoes are not as dangerous as wasps, but they can spoil your vacation with their annoying buzz and constant stings. On the other hand, wasps can be dangerous because their sting hurts more, and sometimes an allergic reaction can occur.
That's why it's a good idea to prepare standard medicines for fever and pain, many plasters, and anti-sting creams in the ship's pharmacy. It would be a good idea to take antihistamines in case of an allergic reaction, because they help with stings, but also with reactions to the sun. Don’t forget medicine for seasickness medicine, because some kids, and even grownups, react badly to the waves. Most of these drugs are in the on-board pharmacy.
When you're on a boat, there's almost always some wind blowing, and you don't have the same feeling of heat and sun as when you are on land. However, you will need equal hydration, and maybe even more. Plan to bring plenty of water. For your stay on the ship, pack or buy fresh fruits and vegetables, especially watermelons. You can buy it in the villages on the islands. They are a real source of fluids and vitamins.
We all know that kids are especially hungry while on board, so pack more food than you think you'll need. Our boats are equipped with enough storage space and refrigerators, so you can store all your food without any problems.
To make sure your children don't spend much time in front of the screen, bring some board games. Cards and other games are a good way to have fun and bring the family together. Bring some paper and drawing supplies, and discover the artistic soul in yourself and your children. Let the children draw the most interesting things from the trip, and then you can make a small exhibition of drawings from the trip when you return home.
But also various water sports, e.g. diving, jet skiing, stand up paddling or underwater scooters will certainly delight the little passengers.
Now that you've packed, it's time to think about where and what to visit with the kids. Together with our skippers (if you have booked one) who have extensive experience in sailing with families, arrange a fun travel program for the children.
Discover islands with shallow bays and sandy beaches, and for the night, choose quiet marinas and small places where you can stretch your legs in the evening. The Adriatic Sea has a lot to offer for our youngest sailors. Beautiful cliffs, sea caves, numerous old forts and lighthouses will wake up a little Jack Sparrow or Christopher Columbus in them. Here too, our experienced skipper will help you with recommendations of the most interesting islands, coves and beaches. If your child wants to try to steer the ship, let them, of course with supervision. Let them feel all the charms of sailing and they will surely fall in love with this type of vacation. With a bit of luck you will certainly have the opportunity to observe the unique dolphins.
So, with good preparation, your boat trip will be relaxed and fun. You will leave the boat satisfied and happy with many memories to last a lifetime.
We will receive your complete list of boats and send you inquiry.
